BMW i5
The eighth-gen BMW 5 Series that arrives in 2023 will include a pure electric variant called BMW i5. The i5 will belong to one of the most competitive EV segments that already includes many models. Its competitors will include the Mercedes EQE, Tesla Model S, Lucid Air, and Nio ET7. From 2024, the Audi E6 will also be in the list of rivals.
BMWBlog claims BMW will offer the i5 in eDrive40, xDrive40, and M50 variants. The base variant may get a 250 kW (335 hp) rear motor, while the other two variants would have an additional motor at the front for higher performance and AWD. The i5 M50’s two motors may generate 400 kW (536 hp) of combined power. An 80.7 kWh battery pack could be standard, and it could provide an EPA-est. range of around 300 miles.
Production of the i5 will take place alongside the i7 at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Germany. Expect the i5 to arrive at U.S. BMW dealers in the second half of 2023.
BMW iX2
The BMW iX2 will be an EV designed for young customers who desire a model more emotionally-engaging than the iX1. A sportier silhouette would make it more aerodynamic than the iX1 (0.26 Cd). Also, expect exclusive bright-shade colors that highlight its expressive exterior.
Inside, the BMW iX2 may pack features like the BMW Curved Display consisting of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display, front seats with electric adjustment and memory functions, panoramic sunroof with an electrically operated roller blind cover, and Harman Kardon Sound System.
The BMW iX2 may have a twin-motor powertrain that gives it all-wheel drive capability, 308 hp, and 364 lb.-ft. of torque. A 64.7 kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP range of over 275 miles will likely be standard. Reports say that the iX2 will debut in Fall 2023 and, unlike BMW iX1, will be available in the U.S.
